Huawei’s series of AI models, Pan Gu Large Models, was named after this mythological figure.
A long, long time ago, the sky and the earth were not yet separated. The universe was like a giant egg, filled with primordial chaos — dark, silent, and without any form of life.
Inside this “egg” slept a giant named Pan Gu. He slept in the darkness for 18,000 years.
One day, Pan Gu woke up. He opened his eyes, but he could see nothing but darkness. He could not move freely. Feeling suffocated, he took a deep breath, stretched his arms, and swung with all his might —
With a tremendous roar, the giant egg cracked open!
The light, clear parts rose up and became the sky. The heavy, muddy parts sank down and became the earth.
Fearing that the sky and earth would close together again, Pan Gu stood between them, holding up the sky with his head and pushing down the earth with his feet. Each day, the sky grew ten feet higher, the earth grew ten feet thicker, and Pan Gu grew ten feet taller.
Another 18,000 years passed. The sky became extremely high, the earth became extremely thick, and Pan Gu became a giant who stood between them. Finally, he was sure the sky and earth would never reunite.
But Pan Gu was exhausted. He collapsed to the ground. With his last breath, he gave his body to create the world: his breath became the wind and clouds; his voice became thunder; his left eye became the sun; his right eye became the moon; his limbs and torso became the four pillars of the earth and the great mountains; his blood became rivers, lakes, and seas; his muscles became fertile soil; his hair and skin became trees, flowers, and grass; and his sweat became rain and dew.
Though Pan Gu died, he created a beautiful, living world. From then on, the sky and earth took shape, the sun and moon shone, all living things flourished, and eventually, human beings appeared on earth.

在很久很久以前，天地还没有分开，整个宇宙像一颗巨大的鸡蛋，里面一片混沌，黑暗、寂静，没有光，没有声音，也没有生命。
在这颗“鸡蛋”里，睡着一位巨人，他的名字叫盘古。他在这片混沌中沉睡了一万八千年。
有一天，盘古终于醒了过来。他睁开眼睛，发现四周一片漆黑，什么也看不见，身体也无法自由活动。他感到非常难受，于是深吸一口气，伸出手臂，用力一挥——
只听“轰隆”一声巨响，那个巨大的“鸡蛋”被劈开了！
那些轻而清的东西，慢慢上升，变成了天；那些重而浊的东西，缓缓下沉，变成了地。
盘古怕天地会再次合拢，就用头顶着天，脚踩着地，站在天地之间。天每天升高一丈，地每天加厚一丈，盘古的身体也跟着每天长高一丈。
就这样，又过了一万八千年。天变得极高，地变得极厚，盘古也成了一个顶天立地的巨人。他终于确定天地再也不会合拢了。
可是，盘古也累坏了。他倒在地上，用尽最后的力量，把自己的身体化成了世间的万物：他呼出的气息，变成了风和云；他发出的声音，变成了雷鸣；他的左眼，变成了太阳；他的右眼，变成了月亮；他的四肢和躯干，变成了大地的四极和高山；他的血液，变成了江河湖海；他的肌肉，变成了肥沃的土地；他的毛发，变成了花草树木；他的汗水，变成了雨露甘霖。
盘古虽然牺牲了自己，却创造了一个充满生机的美丽世界。从此，天地形成，日月运行，万物生长，人类也渐渐出现在这片大地上。
